Family Law — Georgetown, Penang
A place to think clearly
about family matters
Pelangi Adil offers patient, considered legal counsel for families navigating change. We listen first, advise carefully, and walk with you at your own pace.
What We Offer
Three ways we can be of service
Each engagement is shaped around your situation. We do not rush the process, and we do not reduce family matters to paperwork alone.
Listening Session for Couples in Difficulty
A respectful, fixed-fee session for couples who are uncertain whether they wish to pursue legal steps. Each spouse is given equal time; the lawyer listens and sets out the relevant Malaysian framework in plain English.
- Equal time for each spouse
- Plain-English explanation of the law
- No pressure to begin proceedings
Application for Domestic Protection Order
Patient, careful representation under the Domestic Violence Act 1994. We coordinate with social welfare officers and the police where appropriate, and support you through hearings with full attention to your safety and privacy.
- Safety and privacy given priority
- Coordination with welfare officers
- Written updates throughout
Long-Term Co-Parenting Framework
A multi-session engagement for separated parents who wish to put a workable, written co-parenting framework in place. Covers schedules, school decisions, religious observances, and the handling of unexpected events.
- Written framework both parents can rely on
- Coordination with family mediators
- Covers faith, education & logistics
Why Families Choose Us
The way we work makes the difference
Unhurried Counsel
We do not bill by the six-minute unit alone. Sessions are designed to give you time to understand your situation rather than rush toward a conclusion.
Plain-Language Guidance
Legal language can be opaque. We translate it into plain English at every step, so you can make decisions with a clear head rather than guesswork.
Complete Discretion
Family matters are private matters. We handle all correspondence, records, and scheduling with the level of care a trusted counsellor would extend.
Malaysian Law, Well Understood
Our practice focuses exclusively on family law within the Malaysian framework — the Law Reform Act, the Domestic Violence Act, the Guardianship Act, and associated civil statutes.
Regular Written Updates
You will not wonder what is happening with your matter. We provide regular written summaries so that you are informed at every stage, without being overwhelmed.
Fixed, Transparent Fees
Our service fees are stated clearly before any engagement begins. There are no hidden charges, and you are under no obligation to proceed further than the initial session.
A First Step
Is there a family matter weighing on you?
You do not need to have reached a decision before speaking with us. A single conversation can be enough to bring some clarity — and clarity, in our experience, is often what a family most needs before anything else.

Common Questions
Things people often ask us
Do I need to have made a decision before coming to see you?
Not at all. Many of our clients come to the Listening Session precisely because they have not yet decided what they wish to do. The session is designed to give you information and perspective, not to start a legal process.
How long does a protection order application take in Malaysia?
An interim protection order can be sought on an urgent basis and may be granted at the initial hearing. The full process, including a final order, can take several months depending on the circumstances and the court's schedule. We will walk you through the expected timeline at the outset.
Is the co-parenting framework legally binding?
The framework we prepare is a detailed written agreement. We will advise you on the options for making it enforceable, which may include having it endorsed by the court. Many parents find that a well-drafted agreement, even without court endorsement, provides a reliable reference point for years.
Do you handle matters where both parties are Muslim?
Our practice covers civil family law matters. Where Syariah jurisdiction applies, we will tell you clearly at the outset and, where appropriate, we can refer you to a colleague practising in the Syariah courts.
What languages do you work in?
We advise in English as our primary working language. We can accommodate clients who are more comfortable in Bahasa Malaysia for conversational purposes, and we will always prepare the final written materials in plain, accessible English.
How do I know if legal involvement is the right step?
This is exactly the kind of question the Listening Session addresses. Our view is that legal involvement is not always the answer — and we will say so honestly if, after hearing your situation, we think another path might serve you better.
